David R. Boyd

I regularly appear in the federal district courts in Alabama, most often in the Middle (Montgomery) and Northern (Birmingham) Districts, but also from time to time in the Southern (Mobile). I’ve argued many cases in the Eleventh Circuit, including en banc, and a few in the Fifth Circuit.  At the state court level, I’ve appeared in many of the state’s trial courts, but most regularly in Montgomery and Birmingham because those are my main practice locations, and in Lee County because of my representation of Auburn University. I have been involved in well over 100 cases in Alabama’s appellate courts, and have handled a variety of matters before many state agencies, including insurance, environmental management, K-12 and higher education, labor, transportation, finance, revenue, certificate of need, and several professional licensing boards.

Over the years I have been involved in leadership positions with the Boys & Girls Clubs, youth athletics, the United Way, and my church, and most recently as an advocate and supporter of a burgeoning organization that provides enhancement to the lives of developmentally disabled children, young adults and their families. In the business community, I’m a member of the Montgomery Area Chamber of Commerce’s Committee of 100 that supports economic development, and I serve on the board of directors of the Business Council of Alabama – the state’s most powerful and effective advocate for business. I am pleased to have served the legal profession in a number of positions and activities at the state and national levels, and am honored to have received the Scruggs Service to the Bar Award.

I have been very fortunate throughout my career to work on many complex, high-stakes cases involving a wide range of subject matters – natural gas royalties, electronic fishfinders, nuclear power plants, fraudulent biofuels, and a famous deceased entertainer, just to name a few. Although they all have common threads, each one presents a different challenge, brings me into contact with new smart people who inspire and challenge me, and requires that I become something of a subject-matter expert, even if a short-term one.  How could that not be exciting?
