DAN MURPHY is an associate in the firm’s Healthcare and Corporate & Securities Practice Groups. Mr. Murphy’s practice focuses on healthcare industry regulation and transactions, as well as the representation of public and private companies in connection with various corporate matters, including mergers and acquisitions.
Mr. Murphy has recently assisted and advised hospitals, ambulatory surgery centers, diagnostic imaging facilities, durable medical equipment suppliers, physician practices and other clients in the following areas:
private placements/syndications
mergers, stock and asset sales
structuring physician/hospital joint ventures
obtaining certificates of need and state health facility licenses
drafting and negotiating physician recruitment agreements
Medicare enrollment issues and Provider Reimbursement Review Board appeals
performing regulatory compliance reviews and creating compliance plans
managed care/third party payor contracting
Prior to joining Balch & Bingham, Mr. Murphy practiced international trade law in the Washington, D.C. office of White & Case LLP. Before attending law school, Mr. Murphy received a Fulbright teaching assistantship in Vienna, Austria. In addition, Mr. Murphy worked for two-and-a-half years in the corporate finance department of a Fortune 500 medical products and biopharmaceuticals company, Baxter Healthcare Corporation, in Vienna, Austria and Illinois.
Mr. Murphy speaks and writes fluent German. As an undergraduate, he served as the President and Pipe Major of the Notre Dame Bagpipe Band in South Bend, Indiana.
