Energy Transactions and Acquisitions

The Firm's energy practice focuses on all types of energy transactions and the various legal and regulatory issues that may arise in conjunction with those transactions. In addition to being active in the field of utility regulation and ratemaking, our attorneys’ transaction work includes negotiating, drafting and administering various types of energy related contracts, as well as providing counseling and strategic advice in connection with such work. They also have significant experience in handling federal and state regulatory issues affecting these transactions. The Firm's energy clients range from major electric utilities across the country to smaller independent power producers.

Currently, Balch & Bingham attorneys provide advice and counsel on a wide array of legal issues involving power purchase and sale agreements, the re-licensing of hydroelectric and nuclear facilities, the creation and operation of electric generating companies, the use of transmission and distribution systems, compliance with environmental laws, fuel contracts, tower leases, and many associated issues. The Firm is actively involved in administrative matters before the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission, the Securities and Exchange Commission, and state public utility commissions, as well as a number of other state and federal regulatory agencies.
