JERAMIE J. FORTENBERRY is a member of the Estates & Wealth Management and the Corporate, Tax & Finance Practice Groups. His practice involves advising individuals and business owners on taxation, estate planning, estate and trust administration, entity formation, asset protection, commercial lending and real estate. Jeramie’s estate planning practice includes the preparation of wills, trusts, health care plans, and family limited partnerships. He also counsels small businesses on business and tax aspects of business structure and drafts business succession plans and buy-sell agreements.
Jeramie also advises a variety of tax-exempt organizations (including public charities, business leagues, and private foundations) on issues regarding tax exemption and corporate governance. His practice spans the entirety of tax matters involving exempt organizations, including formation of nonprofit organizations, acquisition and recognition of tax-exempt status, private inurement and private benefit, intermediate sanctions, joint ventures with both charitable and non-charitable entities, legislative and political campaign issues, public charity and private foundation rules, unrelated business tax planning, use of subsidiaries, and charitable giving and fundraising. Jeramie has prepared and negotiated favorable IRS letter rulings and assisted donors and charities with fundraising and gift issues.
