MATT CARROLL is a Partner in the firm's Birmingham office.  His practice primarily focuses on business and commercial disputes, including breach of contract, fraud, antitrust, and breach of fiduciary duty matters involving healthcare, banking, insurance, and energy companies. He is a member of the firm's Credit Crisis Group, a special team of lawyers working on challenges created by the current disruptions in the credit and other capital markets.

Matt was raised in Birmingham, Alabama.  After completing his undergraduate education at the University of Virginia and before entering law school, Mr. Carroll worked in the office of the Governor of the State of Alabama.

Representative Experience

  • Defended insurance company in breach of contract lawsuit brought by former agent; succeeded in obtaining summary judgment on all claims
  • Defended manufacturer in product liability lawsuit, obtaining dismissal of all claims
  • Participated in litigation team that successfully defended energy company against breach of contract and tortious interference claims brought by co-owner of oilfield
  • Participated in litigation team that successfully defended energy company in class action concerning alleged breach of take-or-pay contracts with producers of natural gas
  • Represented bank in securities fraud lawsuit arising from private offering of bank’s stock, obtaining summary judgment on all claims
  • Represented company in action to enforce covenant not to compete against former employee
  • Successfully represented energy company in arbitration of fraud and antitrust claims over price of natural gas
