R. Pepper Crutcher, Jr., partner in the firm’s Jackson, Miss., office and leader of the Affordable Care Act Strategists, was quoted by the Mississippi Business Journal on August 13, 2015, and spoke with Mississippi Public Broadcasting (MPB) on August 18, 2015, regarding a recently announced Affordable Care Act penalty that would subject small businesses to an excise tax if employers assist employees with healthcare costs. This notice changes a previous decision that did not require businesses with less than 50 employees to provide healthcare under the Affordable Care Act. Mr. Crutcher discussed the implications of this rule for businesses and advised that the solution to the situation will likely come through a congressional fix.
