John H. Rice, partner in the firm’s Gulfport, Miss., office and member of the Environmental & Natural Resources Section, authored an article for Law 360’s Expert Analysis section on Community Development Block Grant (CDBG)-funded disaster programs in Mississippi, specifically after Hurricane Katrina, which destroyed eighty miles of the Mississippi coastline and damaged 220,000 housing units. Throughout the article, Mr. Rice explains how CDBG funding allows for recovery, mitigation against future events, resiliency in the future, and flexibility to address local issues. Mr. Rice also discussed the use of CDBG disaster funds to develop and implement disaster recovery programs for the state including, the areas of housing, economic development, public infrastructure and tourism.
