Mississippi Government Building Renamed “Timothy Alan (Tim) Ford Building” in Honor of Late Balch Partner Tim Ford

Balch & Bingham is proud to announce that on April 18, 2016, Mississippi Governor Phil Bryant signed into law House Bill 114, which renamed the Public Employees’ Retirement System of Mississippi Building the “Timothy Alan (Tim) Ford Building” in honor of Tim Ford, late Balch partner and former speaker of the Mississippi House of Representatives. The act will go into effect on July 1, 2016, and a dedication ceremony is expected to be held this fall. 

Mr. Ford was a partner in the firm's Jackson, Miss., office and member of the firm’s Government Affairs, Energy, Public Finance and Corporate Practice Groups. Mr. Ford was elected to the Mississippi House of Representatives in1980, and was elected Speaker of the House in 1988. He served as Speaker until his retirement in 2004. Mr. Ford was the first House Speaker in the nation to receive the William M. Bulger Excellence in State Legislation Leadership Award, which is given annually to a leader who has made significant contributions to the performance, strengtheningand operation of his or her legislative institution. He passed away unexpectedly on Feb. 27, 2015.
