Armin J. Moeller, Jr., Leads Mississippi Hospital Association Webinar Regarding Mississippi House Bill 1523

Armin J. Moeller, Jr., partner in the firm’s Jackson, Miss., office and member of the Labor & Employment Section, will lead a Mississippi Hospital Association webinar on June 30, 2016, regarding Mississippi’s House Bill 1523, or the “Freedom of Conscience” bill, which will go into effect on July 1, 2016. The bill will create a Religious Liberty Accommodation Act in Mississippi that would give religious organizations, state and private employees and certain other persons authority to act in accordance with their religious beliefs and aims to protect their actions based upon their “sincerely held religious beliefs.” The webinar covered the workplace changes and challenges the bill could bring to Mississippi businesses, including potential conflicts with federal laws. Mr. Moeller discussed anticipated problems for employers, as well as key requirements regarding federal civil rights obligations, LGBT and gender identity obligations and Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) regulations.
