Balch Hosts Sixth Annual Susan B. Livingston Boot Camp for Success, Featured by Alabama News Center
On July 28-29, 2016, Balch & Bingham hosted its Sixth Annual Susan B. Livingston Boot Camp for Success. The event was attended by 36 students from 10 law school across the Southeast. The program is designed to encourage diversity in the legal profession and helps provide future law students with the tools needed to succeed in law school and in their careers. Each year, upcoming first-year law students from diverse or under-represented backgrounds are invited to attend the two-day seminar. Speakers included Balch attorneys, as well as Birmingham professionals from various industries to showcase the multitude of career options available to law school graduates.
Alabama News Center featured the Boot Camp program in an article on August 2, 2016. Several Boot Camp attendees were quoted throughout the article, discussing what they gained from the program. Students specifically noted that the program eased nerves and provided an opportunity to speak candidly with current attorneys about law school and how to jumpstart their legal careers. In addition, Douglas B. Kauffman, chair of the firm’s Diversity Committee, spoke with the publication regarding the need for firms to increase diversity in the legal profession, as well as the goals and success of the Boot Camp Program.
