Currently I serve on two boards of local organizations that I care deeply about. These organizations serve the younger and older segments of the population, which is a nice balance to my everyday interactions with working-age people. The first is the Mountain Brook City Schools Foundation, which provides extra support for the city’s schools, particularly in the areas of technology and teacher training. Our three daughters have all been in the Mountain Brook school system, where they have gotten strong educational foundations. Even a strong school system, however, has to compete with schools nationally and internationally, and the Foundation’s efforts give the city’s schools an extra boost. My other current board involvement is with Kirkwood by the River, a nonprofit continuing care retirement community. My public finance and nonprofit experience is often helpful in that position, but it’s also a fun role to fill when I get to interact with residents.
