What types of clients do you represent?

My representative clients include cities, counties, boards of education, utility systems, hospitals, non-profit organizations (including 501(c)(3)), state authorities, and many other types of public and private entities.
What previous experiences, prior to your work at Balch, influence your practice?

Prior to joining Balch, I spent five years based in Atlanta, Georgia as a consultant with Accenture Ltd. (formerly Andersen Consulting), a global management consulting, technology services and outsourcing company. While with Accenture, I helped deliver strategic solutions to Fortune 500 clients in the communications and energy industries by managing complex projects staffed by teams located both in the U.S. and abroad. Many of the issue analysis, logistics, and solution development skills acquired from this previous experience are leverageable in my current representation of clients.
How are you involved in your community?

After joining Balch, I became involved with Lakeshore Foundation, a 501(c)3 non-profit organization serving people with physical disabilities throughout Alabama, across the country and around the world. Lakeshore Foundation's mission is to enable people with physical disability and chronic health conditions to lead healthy, active, and independent lifestyles through physical activity, sport, recreation, advocacy, policy, and research. Lakeshore Foundation provides programs for youth, adults and injured military.

Select Matters

Municipal bankruptcy: Served as bond counsel and special counsel to Jefferson County, Alabama in its restructuring of $4.2 billion in outstanding debt culminating in the county’s emergence from the nation’s second largest Chapter 9 bankruptcy proceeding.
Utilities refinancing: Served as bond counsel for a $254 million private activity bond refinancing and issuance of Alabama Power Company Pollution Control Revenue Refunding Bonds.
Utilities refinancing: Served as bond counsel to a city-owned water works and sewer board for multiple refinancings of different outstanding bond issues.
Bond reofferings: Served as bond counsel to Alabama Power Company for numerous reofferings of its outstanding solid waste and pollution control private activity bonds.
501(c)(3) bond refinancing: Served as bond counsel to 501(c)(3) service organization for refinancing of outstanding bond issues.
