Michael Malenfant represents power industry clients in regulatory and litigation proceedings. He has helped clients obtain regulatory approvals necessary to develop net metering and energy efficiency initiatives, build utility-scale renewable generation, enter into power purchase agreements, and receive timely and fair cost-recovery. He has also helped to litigate similar regulatory matters on appeal. Michael has litigated utility rate and certificate matters in federal and state court, and his experience covers a broad range of power industry legal and policy issues.
Michael has been actively involved in the certification of many of Mississippi's largest renewable solar generation projects. To date, Michael has helped secure approval for over 100 megawatts of solar generating capacity.
It is exciting for me to be able to work with clients facing almost constant innovation. In the power industry, the only constant is change, and my practice has to recognize that fact. It is exciting to be able to help my clients adapt to those changes and find solutions that recognize the interests of the different stakeholders we work with on a daily basis.
I represent a variety of clients involved in the power industry. My clients range from large, vertically integrated, regulated public utilities to deregulated distribution utilities and unregulated power producers.
I most frequently practice before the Mississippi Public Service Commission and Federal Energy Regulatory Commission. I have also litigated cases in federal court, before the Mississippi Supreme Court and in the Mississippi state courts.
