University of Alabama Press Publishes Partner's New Book

The University of Alabama Press has released Mighty by Sacrifice: The Destruction of an American Bomber Squadron, August 29, 1944.  The book was co-authored by James L. Noles, Jr., a partner in Balch & Bingham's Birmingham office, and his father, James L. Noles, Sr.

Mighty by Sacrifice tells the true story of a heroic yet ill-fated B-17 bomber mission during World War II.  Much of the book focuses on the late Bill Tune, a native of Carbon Hill, Alabama, who served as the lead pilot on the mission.

The book is currently available in book stores and can also be ordered through such on-line outlets as Amazon.  It is Noles' second book published by the University of Alabama Press.  2004's Twenty-Three Minutes to Eternity chronicled the story of the USS Liscome Bay, the U.S. Navy's "forgotten flattop."

Although Noles' law practice focuses on environmental matters, his legal work also encompasses issues of historical and cultural resources and matters of preservation law.
