FERC issues NOPR Proposing to Approve EOP-010-1, Geomagnetic Disturbance Operations

On January 16, 2014, in Docket No. RM14-1, FERC issued a Notice of Proposed Rulemaking (NOPR) proposing to approve Reliability Standard EOP-010-1 (Geomagnetic Disturbance Operations). NERC submitted the proposed Reliability Standard for Commission approval in response to a FERC directive in Order No. 779. Proposed Reliability Standard EOP-010-1 is designed to mitigate the effects of geomagnetic disturbances on the Bulk-Power System by requiring responsible entities to implement Operating Plans and Operating Procedures or Processes.
