NRC Proposes Information Collection on Monitoring of Neutron-Absorbing Materials in Spent Fuel Pools

The NRC is requesting public comment on its intention to collect information from Part 50 reactor license holders regarding the monitoring of neutron-absorbing materials in spent fuel storage pools.  The NRC has issued Generic Letter 2015-XX to address degradation of neutron-absorbing materials in wet storage systems for spent fuel.  The Generic Letter proposes to collect information from reactor licensees related to monitoring and aging-management of neutron absorbing materials to assist staff in determining whether additional regulatory action is needed.  Pursuant to the Paperwork Reduction Act, the NRC must obtain approval from the Office of Management and Budget prior to imposing new information collection requirements and must provide an opportunity for public comment.  Comments on the NRC’s proposed information collection are due by August 3, 2015.
