Jeff Starling, Partner and Chair of the firm’s Labor and Employment Practice Group and member of the Privacy and Data Security Practice Group, was quoted in the Jacksonville Business Journal on April 25, 2014 about the risks associated with employees using their own devices for work. Mr. Starling addressed various matters regarding BYOD polices, including the importance of employers paying particular attention to the Fair Labor and Standards Act, in regards to employees using personal devices after hours. The Act requires overtime pay for non-exempt employees who work more than 40 hours per week. He also noted that personally selected devices are more cost efficient and that employees are generally happier with their own devices.
