Brandon N. Robinson, attorney in the firm’s Birmingham, Ala., office and member of the Privacy and Data Security Practice Group, was quoted by the Birmingham Business Journal on Aug. 21, 2014 on how small businesses can protect themselves from the potential consequences of cyber attacks.  In the article, Mr. Robinson outlines four key components for small businesses to consider in minimizing cyber threats: (1) establish a data breach response team and prepare a plan before a breach occurs; (2) stay updated on state, federal, and industry requirements regarding data security and breach notification; (3) maintain a good relationship with law enforcement; and (4) consider reputational as well as legal risks when crafting communications following a breach.
