Loren M. Lancaster, associate in the firm’s Birmingham, Ala., office and member of the Labor & Employment and Litigation Sections, played a key role in the Alabama Right of Publicity Act (ROP Act) that was signed into law by Governor Robert Bentley on May 18, 2015. This effort was sponsored by the Alabama Law Institute (ALI). Ms. Lancaster played a key role in organizing, educating, coordinating, and assisting in the ALI Committee work. Among other things, she gave the initial presentation about the state of the right of publicity law in Alabama as well as in the nineteen other states that have already enacted a ROP Act. In addition to Ms. Lancaster, the ALI Committee included other Alabama lawyers who practice in this area of the law. The ALI Committee was led Will Hill Tankersley, Jr., partner in the firm’s Birmingham, Ala., office and chair of the Intellectual Property Practice Group.
