Marcus R. Chatterton Quoted by American Bar Association’s Litigation News Regarding Fair Use on Social Media
Marcus R. Chatterton, attorney in the firm’s Birmingham, Ala., office and member of the Litigation Section, was quoted in the American Bar Association’s Litigation News publication on March 7, 2016, regarding copyright law for digital content on social media. The article discussed the recent Lenz v. Universal Music Corp decision, also known as the “dancing baby” case, in which a federal court of appeals held that copyright holders must consider fair use before trying to remove online content. Mr. Chatterton commented on the typical path of a copyright case after a takedown notice is issued, stating that very few of these cases go to trial as the notice typically leads to the removal of the content.
