Brandon N. Robinson Quoted by Law360 Regarding Spokeo Inc. v. Robins Ruling

Brandon N. Robinsonpartner in the firm’s Birmingham, Ala., office and member of the Privacy & Data Security Practice Group, was quoted by Law360 on May 16, 2016, regarding the Supreme Court’s Spokeo Inc. v. Robins ruling. In the article, Mr. Robinson discussed the significance of the ruling’s restraint, in that it discussed the need for concreteness beyond mere statutory violations, but otherwise refrained from either affirming or denying standing based on the facts of the case, instead remanding to the Ninth Circuit to decide. By avoiding particular holdings, the court declined an opportunity to set more far-reaching precedent regarding privacy class action standing, representing somewhat of a victory for data brokers, and a lost opportunity for class action plaintiffs.
