K.C. Hightower Successfully Represented Wynter Lee in BP Fraud Case
K.C. Hightower, partner in the firm’s Gulfport office and member of the Litigation Practice, successfully represented Wynter Lee, the mass tort coordinator for a Texas-based attorney, against allegations that Ms. Lee intentionally sought to defraud BP in filing over 40,000 BP claims on behalf of Vietnamese fishermen located on the Mississippi Gulf Coast.
On August 18, 2016, after a nearly five week jury trial, Ms. Lee was acquitted of all 66 charges of mail fraud, wire fraud, identity theft, and conspiracy against BP brought by the United States Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of Mississippi. The jury found that Ms. Lee and two individuals associated with the law firm for which she worked were not guilty on all counts.
Mr. Hightower has broad and considerable experience in the areas of white-collar criminal defense and commercial litigation.
