Balch & Bingham’s Stephen Gidiere Elected Fellow of American College of Environmental Lawyers
Stephen Gidiere, partner in the firm’s Birmingham office and co-chair of the Environmental & Natural Resources Practice, was elected a Fellow of the American College of Environmental Lawyers (ACOEL), at the organization’s annual meeting on October 28, 2017, in Charleston, South Carolina.
ACOEL is a professional association of approximately 250 distinguished lawyers who practice in the field of environmental law. Membership is by invitation and members are recognized by their peers as preeminent in their field. ACOEL members are dedicated to: maintaining and improving the ethical practice of environmental law; the administration of justice; and the development of environmental law at both the state and federal level.
Stephen has nearly 20 years of experience litigating environmental and natural resources cases against the federal government and non-governmental organizations in federal district courts, U.S. Courts of Appeals, and the U.S. Supreme Court. He represents utilities, businesses, local governments, and trade associations in environmental litigation, including enforcement actions, under federal environmental statutes including the Clean Water Act, Clean Air Act, and the Endangered Species Act. He also routinely handles challenges to agency rulemakings and other actions under those laws. Stephen is a nationally recognized leader in the area of open government and freedom of information laws.
