Debra Lewis Discussed Regulatory Relief for Banks with Birmingham Business Journal
Debra Lewis, partner in the firm’s Birmingham office and member of the Banking & Financial Services Practice, discussed the Senate Banking Committee’s recent legislative proposal and its potential impact on local financial institutions with the Birmingham Business Journal on November 20, 2017. The proposed legislation was announced in November 2017 with a goal to “improve our nation’s financial regulatory framework and promote economic growth.” It would provide the first stage of regulatory relief for banks since 2008.
Debra discussed various aspects of the proposed legislation and its impact on local banks and financial institutions, stating that it indicates “headway” toward regulatory relief. She shared insights on proposed exemptions that would improve consumer access to mortgages, allowing community banks to fund additional loans and positively impact the local economy, and spoke about the positive impact of easing regulations on compliance costs for financial institutions.
