Balch Partners Share Data Privacy Hotspots & Legal Issues Facing Alabama Businesses

Balch & Bingham partners Adam Israel, Brandon N. Robinson and Will Hill Tankersley were featured in the Birmingham Business Journal discussing emerging cybersecurity concerns affecting Alabama businesses. They shared insights about key legal hotspots and areas for businesses, ranging from new legislation regulating data breach response to the implementation of policies designed to protect information.

Adam Israel and Will Hill Tankersley, both partners in the firm’s Birmingham office, discussed trade secret and employee confidentiality litigation, a growing concern for businesses due to the transfer of electronic information. They shared reasonable steps for businesses to safeguard confidential information. Adam is a member of the Litigation Practice, focusing on complex business litigation and representing businesses and individuals in non-compete, non-solicitations and theft of trade secrets cases in trial and appellate courts. Will Hill chairs the firm’s Intellectual Property/Trademark Practice, and works on issues such as unfair competition, restrictive covenants, and technology and Internet disputes.

Brandon N. Robinson, partner in the firm’s Birmingham office, looked at ways in which U.S.-based businesses can ensure they are meeting international compliance standards set forth by the General Data Privacy Regulation (GDPR) set to take effect May 25.
