Balch & Bingham Named Among Top Firms in Chambers USA 2018
Balch & Bingham LLP is pleased to announce that 31 attorneys and 14 practices are recognized in the newly released 2018 edition of Chambers USA, published by Chambers & Partners. Balch consistently receives top rankings in Chambers USA, which is regarded as a prominent legal guide known for its independent and objective rankings of top law firms and attorneys.
Each year, London-based Chambers USA undergoes a rigorous research process to determine rankings for top law firms and individual attorneys through in-depth interviews and surveys of attorneys and clients, and an analysis of its own database resources. Rankings are assessed on legal knowledge, experience, ability, effectiveness and client service, in addition to the strength and depth of a firm’s practice.
Chambers USA recognizes practices and attorneys for their work within a specific discipline and geographic area. Each practice and attorney is ranked in bands from 1-6, with 1 being the highest achievement possible.
Highlights from the firm’s 2018 Chambers USA rankings include:
- 31 Balch attorneys were individually recognized by Chambers USA as leading attorneys. Nine attorneys earned a Band 1 ranking.
- 14 of the firm’s practices were recognized by Chambers USA, including six practices that earned a Band 1 ranking.
- Chambers USA debuted its practice ranking for Environment in Alabama this year. Balch was included in the inaugural list, earning a Band 1 ranking.
- Three Balch attorneys made their first appearance in the rankings:
- Ashley Cannady, partner in the firm’s Jackson office and member of the Labor & Employment Practice, was recognized for Labor & Employment in Mississippi.
- Stephen Gidiere, partner in the firm’s Birmingham office and co-chair of the Environmental & Natural Resources Practice, was recognized for Environment in Alabama.
- Grady Moore, partner in the firm’s Birmingham office and co-chair of the Environmental & Natural Resources Practice, was recognized for Environment in Alabama.

- Ashley Cannady, partner in the firm’s Jackson office and member of the Labor & Employment Practice, was listed as “Up and Coming” for Labor & Employment in Mississippi, and Bradley Ennis, partner in the firm’s Gulfport office and member of the Environmental & Natural Resources Practice, was listed as “Up and Coming” for Environment in Mississippi. “Up and Coming” attorneys are recognized as practicing at the forefront of their generation and driving the firm’s growth.
- Armin Moeller, partner in the firm’s Jackson office and member of the Labor & Employment Practice, was recognized as a “Star Individual” for Labor & Employment in Mississippi. A “Star Individual” ranking is given to attorneys with exceptional recommendations in their field.
- Tom Penland, partner in the firm’s Atlanta office and member of the Energy Practice, was named “Recognised Practitioners.” This designation is given to attorneys who handle notable matters and received recommendation during the research process.
