Balch to Host Susan B. Livingston Boot Camp For Success

Balch & Bingham will host its eighth annual Susan B. Livingston Boot Camp for Success August 2-3, 2018 in the firm’s Birmingham, Alabama office. The program aims to encourage diversity in the legal profession, and honors the firm’s late partner Susan B. Livingston, whose advocacy for minority and underrepresented attorneys inspired the program.

Boot Camp for Success offers incoming first-year students a comprehensive guide of navigating law school and a subsequent legal career. Led by Balch attorneys, corporate leaders and other accomplished professionals from a wide variety of backgrounds and career paths, attendees will participate in presentations, panel sessions, small-group discussions, and a mock law class. Students will also learn tips for success in the classroom and in a job search.

Since its inception in 2011, more than 200 students have attended Boot Camp for Success. Boot Camp attendees have gone on to earn degrees from many of the nation’s top law schools and pursue legal careers at firms across the Southeast.

“Boot Camp for Success is a key component of Balch’s commitment to support diversity within the legal profession,” said Kelly Pate, Partner in the firm’s Montgomery office and Chair of the Diversity Committee. “We are able to work with students from a variety of backgrounds with different career goals. It is an honor to invest in these young students as they pursue a future in law.”

All incoming first-year law students are encouraged to apply, although the focus of the seminar is for minority or first-generation college students and those who may not be as familiar with the legal industry.

The application deadline has been extended to July 19.
