Doug Kauffman to Speak on Employment Leave Policies for Alabama Employers

Doug Kauffman, partner in the firm’s Birmingham office and member of the Labor & Employment Practice, will present on employment leave policies at Alabama’s Self-Insured Association’s (ASIA) Summer Conference on Sunday, August 5, 2018 in Destin, Florida.

Doug’s presentation, entitled “Attendance: What Policies and Practices Are Risky,” will focus on best practices for managing workplace leave, how to legally manage employee attendance, the Family & Medical Leave Act (FMLA), the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), and how to address obvious abusers of leave.

The Alabama Self-Insured Association is a statewide, non-profit membership organization representing Alabama-based employers who self-insure workers compensation coverage on their employees. ASIA was formed to help employers understand the law and the need for equitable coverage for injured employees. The organization’s three-day Summer Conference provides attendees the opportunity to learn more about relevant employment laws and practices from legal professionals and medical practitioners.

In his legal practice, Doug assists employers in managing their most valuable assets – their employees. He provides counsel to large and small employers with a particular focus on the law, regulations, and best practices in employment compliance. Doug also handles complaints or audits by various government agencies, including the EEOC, the Department of Labor, and Immigration and Customs Enforcement.
