Balch Attorneys Presented on Alabama Municipal Courts at Alabama League of Municipalities Fall 2018 Conference

Ed R. Haden, partner in the firm’s Birmingham office and leader of the firm’s Appellate Practice, and Will Hill Tankersley, partner and senior litigator in the firm’s Birmingham and Montgomery offices, for the fourth consecutive year provided an update on Balch’s four-year defense in multiple cases at the trial court and appellate court level of Alabama Municipal Court independence at the Alabama League of Municipalities (“ALAM”) Fall 2018 Municipal Law Conference in Orange Beach, Alabama. The ALAM Conference brought together municipal judges and city attorneys from across the state. Among other things, Ed and Will Hill presented Balch’s 11th Circuit amicus brief efforts in all four of the recent appeals involving municipal court independence.

The Balch effort to defend Alabama Municipal Court independence is led by attorneys Ed and Will Hill along with Greg Cook, Conrad Anderson IV, Ginny Willcox Leavens, and Steven Corhern. This team of litigators, together with state stakeholders, have successfully defended Alabama cities against the wave of litigation filed in the last few years challenging the autonomy of Alabama municipal courts.
