Balch & Bingham’s Lee Johnsey and Joe Leavens Recognized as Rising Star Lawyers by the Birmingham Business Journal

Balch & Bingham is pleased to announce that Lee Johnsey and Joe Leavens have been recognized as Rising Stars Lawyers by the Birmingham Business Journal. The publication’s annual list highlights up-and-coming attorneys whose contributions to their firms and communities, as well as their potential to shape the area’s legal future, distinguish them within the profession. Honorees were announced in the October 12, 2018, edition of the Birmingham Business Journal.

  • Lee Johnsey, partner in the firm’s Birmingham office and member of the Real Estate Practice, focuses on real estate matters, offering counsel on the acquisition, development, ownership, management and disposition of real estate, unsecured and secured lending, corporate matters, gaming finance and operation, and tax sales. Experienced in transactional and litigation matters, Lee provides a solutions-oriented legal approach based upon his deep experience in the field.

Lee’s recognition as a Rising Star Lawyer adds to a list of honors that include two-time designations as a Top Attorney in Birmingham Magazine (2017, 2018) and as a Mid-South Super Lawyers Rising Star (2017, 2018). Lee is also involved in professional organizations, including his recent role as president of the Alabama State Bar’s Young Lawyers Section (2017-2018).

  • Joe Leavens, attorney in the firm’s Birmingham office and member of the Litigation Practice, has a diverse legal practice focusing on joint use and pole attachment issues for utilities across the United States; construction disputes for owners, general contractors and subcontractors; insurance coverage analysis for both insurers and insureds; and products liability defense for national manufacturing companies.

Joe is actively involved in Birmingham’s legal community, serving as a member of the Alabama Defense Lawyers Association, the Birmingham Inns of Court, the Birmingham Young Lawyers Association, and the Defense Research Institute’s Young Lawyers Steering Committee. He is also involved in community outreach organizations, including a previous leadership role on Camp Smile-A-Mile’s Junior Board and as a volunteer for the Mountain Brook Athletics Association.
