Timothy Alan (Tim) Ford Building Dedicated in Memory of Late Balch Partner Tim Ford
Balch & Bingham was honored to celebrate the dedication of the Timothy Alan (Tim) Ford Building, named in memory of late Balch partner Tim Ford, former speaker of the Mississippi House of Representatives. The building houses the Public Employees' Retirement System of Mississippi and is located in the heart of downtown Jackson. Government officials and business leaders from across the state of Mississippi, as well as many friends of colleagues of Tim, attended the dedication on November 7, 2018.
“Tim was a respected partner and trusted adviser to many,” said Stan Blanton, managing partner. “His impact on the state of Mississippi continues to affect so many lives to this day. As a firm, we miss Tim greatly and are proud to carry on his legacy through our work.”
Tim passed away unexpectedly in 2015 at the age of 63. He is fondly remembered for his bipartisan approach and his lasting impact across the state of Mississippi.
Tim was elected to the Mississippi House of Representatives in 1980 and was elected speaker of the house in 1988. He served as speaker until his retirement in 2004. He was the first speaker of the house in the nation to receive the William M. Bulger Excellence in State Legislation Leadership Award, which is given annually to a leader who has made significant contributions to the performance, strengthening, and operation of his or her legislative institution.
Following his term as speaker, Tim joined Balch & Bingham’s Jackson office in 2003. He was the co-chair of the firm’s Government Relations Practice, and was a member of the Energy, Public Finance, and Corporate Practices.
