Balch & Bingham Partner, Gregory C. Cook, chair of the firm’s Commercial and Class Action Practice recently co-authored and edited the American Bar Association’s Class Action Strategy and Practice Guide, an essential practice guide for lawyers, judges, advocates and decision makers at every level. Balch’s Steven Corhern, attorney in the Litigation Practice, and Jason Tompkins, partner in the Commercial and Class Action Practice also contributed to the guide by authoring chapters.
The Class Action Strategy and Practice Guide offers practical guidance to lawyers on how to conduct a class action. It also provides balance by including both the plaintiff and defense perspective on key decisions during the class action battle. The book includes insightful information that is applicable throughout the class action process, beginning with critical steps before the filing of the action and ending with settlement decisions and mechanisms.

Greg focuses his practice on financial services litigation, including complex commercial litigation and class actions. His work with financial institutions ranges from class actions to routine banking litigation. Over the past 25 years, he has defended over 60 class actions, handled over 250 real estate and mortgage matters, and is a part of more than 40 reported opinions. Deeply involved in the legal community, he served for three years as co-chair of the American Bar Association’s Class Action & Derivative Suits Committee and is the immediate past chair of the Business Torts and Antitrust Section of the Alabama State Bar and currently serves on the Alabama Supreme Court’s Standing Committee on the Rules of Civil Procedure. Additionally, he was recently named co-chair of the American Bar Association Section of Litigation’s Professional Development Committee
Greg is also the editor of Balch’s Southeast Financial Litigation Monitor Blog which reports on legal developments affecting the financial services industry. He is one of only 17 attorneys nationwide to be named a BTI Client Service All-Star MVP 2018. Greg was one of only three attorneys in Alabama recognized by BTI for providing superior client service and is the only attorney in Alabama selected as a BTI Client Service All-Star MVP.
