Jason Tompkins and Chase Espy, attorneys in the firm’s Birmingham office and members of the Consumer Finance Litigation Practice, will present at the Association of Credit and Collection Professionals (ACA International Convention) on July 16, 2019 in San Diego, CA.

ACA International provides comprehensive learning resources for companies operating in the credit and collection industry. The organization brings together third-party collection agencies, law firms, asset buying companies and creditors.

Jason and Chase will present during the session, "Don't Furnish a Plaintiff's Verdict: The Data Furnisher's Duty and Defending FCRA Cases" which will discuss recent Consumer Financial Protection Bureau actions, court decisions, and the most pressing compliance issues to explain how furnishers can comply with their duties under the Fair Credit Reporting Act and defend themselves when they end up in the crosshairs.

Jason Tompkins was recently named chair of Balch’s Appellate Practice, and has been lead or co-counsel in appeals in the Alabama state appellate courts, numerous federal circuits, and the U.S. Supreme Court. He handles appeals in all areas of the law, but also has developed a reputation for coordinating defense and appellate strategy across numerous jurisdictions in individual and class action lawsuits involving claims under the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act, Fair Credit Reporting Act, and Telephone Consumer Protection Act.

Chase Espy’s practice areas include appellate and financial services litigation, specializing in the defense of claims under the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act and the Fair Credit Reporting Act, as well as other complex litigation, including class actions, business litigation, and § 1983 civil rights claims against local city governments.
