Balch & Bingham is pleased to announce that Greg Cook, partner and chair of the Financial Services Litigation Practice, has been recognized as a top author in the 2021 JD Supra Readers' Choice Awards, which acknowledges top authors and firms for their thought leadership on key topics during 2020.
Greg is being recognized as a top author in the Class Action category for the article, Banks Headed for Total Victory in Agent Fees Class Actions. The report detailed the wave of “Agent Fee” class actions against lenders who made PPP loans under the CARES Act. There were over sixty lawsuits in federal courts, alleging that banks were required to pay CPAs and others who assisted borrowers with loan applications. Since then, eight federal judges have ruled in favor of the banks and dismissed Agent Fee class actions.
Greg’s practice centers on financial services and commercial litigation, including class action and complex litigation. Since joining Balch in 1991, Greg has defended over 60 class actions, handled over 250 real estate and mortgage matters, and is a part of over 40 reported opinions. Under Greg’s leadership, Balch’s Class Action Practice recently received a Tier 1 ranking nationally by The Best Lawyers in America®.
Greg currently serves on the Alabama Supreme Court Standing Committee on the Rules of Civil Procedure, and for the past three years, served as co-chair of the ABA Class Action & Derivative Suits Committee of the Alabama State Bar. He has also been recognized as a Life Fellow of the Birmingham Bar Foundation and a Life Fellow of the American Bar Association. Greg is one of only 17 attorneys nationwide to be named BTI Client Service All-Star (2017-2019). He is consistently recognized by Best Lawyers in America® (2011-present), Mid-South Super Lawyers (2011 – present), and Benchmark Litigation (2014-present).
