The first thing I did as a new attorney was learn how to run a title search. This has shaped my practice in the most influential way. Learning how to search real estate records, whether they be online or in the courthouse, for any and all matters that affect a piece of property, shaped the way I think and practice as a real estate attorney. No matter what I am working on, I always approach it with the question "If I am examining a title 20 years down the road, will this document be clear and accurate as to what we are trying to achieve?" Having this background has made me a more thoughtful attorney.
