About Steve
  • What previous experiences, prior to your work at Balch, influence your practice?

I come from a blue-collar home where education and a serious work ethic came in daily doses. Clients need lawyers who will do the hard work to get the answers and develop solutions with the least possible disturbance to the continued operation of their business. Genuine humility and respect for the client's business and personnel allows and encourages teamwork that finds the best solutions at the least cost.

  • What do you see on the horizon in your area of practice?

Environmental law will only become more widely applicable, intense, and demanding for businesses, industries, and environmental lawyers. Clients who have never needed environmental counsel in the past will be looking for lawyers with legitimate expertise. and lawyers practicing environmental law will have to invest more time and energy mastering the fundamentals and tracking the cutting edge. The cost of environmental compliance will increase along with the potential losses for compliance problems and failures.
