  • What types of clients do you represent?

    I represent businesses and individuals who need help understanding how the tax laws apply to their particular situation.

  • What do you find most exciting about your work?

    Taxes are complicated and I enjoy solving problems for clients. It is a pleasure to have someone with a confusing tax liability and aid them in reducing their taxes and engaging in efficient tax planning.

    I also enjoy speaking to various groups regarding cases, rulings, and legislation impacting Alabama Taxpayers.

  • Liability of Corporate Directors: Represented the director of a City Federal Savings and Loan in a $20 million suit and received a defendants' verdict. (RTC v. Carraway 1993)
  • Felon in possession of a firearm: Appeals Court reversed the District Court in applying sentencing guidelines for a felon possessing a firearm. (United States v. Skinner, 968 F.2d 1154 (11th Cir, 1992)
  • Responsible Party for Withholding Taxes:  A non-resident was not a responsible person to Alabama for withholding taxes. (Rivers v. Department of Revenue, 668 So.2d 786 (Ala. Civ. App. 1995) Cert. Denied Aug. 18, 1995)
  • Tax Liability in Bankruptcy: Use of Bankruptcy to discharge tax claims. (MacElvain v. IRS, 180 B.R. 670 (M.D.Ala. 1995))
  • Depreciation on out of state Property: Taxpayer's basis in property is not increased by depreciation deduction not used in Alabama. (Department v. Robinson, 733 So.2d 397 (Ala. Civ. App. 1998).
  • Qualifying to run for Public Office: Political Parties alone decide who can run under party label. The Alabama Republican Party and not courts can remove candidates and disqualify candidates. Alabama Republican Party v. McGinley, 893 So.2d 337  (Ala. 2004)
  • IRS Bound by Agents in resolving cases: Taxpayer who reached a criminal settlement that required repayment of taxes could not also be liable for additional taxes when IRS released its judgment lien. (Creel v. CIR,  419 F.3d 1135 (11th Cir, 2005))
  • Rail Cars passing through Alabama do not establish nexus for income tax purposes: (Department v. Union Tank Car Co., 974 So.2d 1024 (Ala. Civ. App 2007)
  • Courts lack jurisdiction to determine qualifications of political party candidates:  (Rice v. Chapman  51 So.3d 281 (Ala. 2010)
