STEPHEN A. YODER is a partner in the Birmingham office and is a member of the banking and corporate practice areas. He represents both public and private companies in corporate transactions and regulatory matters. He also is a member of the firm's Credit Crisis Group, a special team of lawyers working on challenges created by the current disruptions in the credit and other capital markets.

Prior to joining Balch & Bingham, Mr. Yoder was senior executive vice president of AmSouth Bank where his duties included legal, regulatory and risk management. He also served as assistant general counsel at Mellon Bank in Pittsburgh and was a partner specializing in banking and corporate matters at the Reed Smith LLP law firm.

Mr. Yoder is a member of the governing bodies of EyeSight Foundation of Alabama, United Way of Central Alabama, Friends of the Railroad District and Cultural Alliance of Greater Birmingham. He was the founding chairman of Vulcan Park Foundation. Mr. Yoder is a member of the advisory board to the North Carolina Banking Law Institute.

He is also an adjunct professor at the School of Business of the University of Alabama at Birmingham, where he teaches corporate governance and the legal environment of business.
