Sloane Phillips Leads Panel on Women in Law

Sloane Phillips, attorney in the firm’s Birmingham office and member of the Litigation Practice, moderated a virtual panel for the Alabama Defense Lawyers Association’s (ADLA) Women in the Law Committee. Sloane guided the panel through a discussion about complex challenges encountered by women in their pursuit of advancement within the legal profession and judiciary, noting the fact that women now outnumber men in U.S. law schools.

The webinar, held on March 6, 2024, showcased a distinguished panel of female judges representing various judicial roles in Alabama. Together, they explored the myriad of issues confronting women in both legal practice and the judiciary. The judges also offered their advice to women in the courtroom based on their collective experience and observations from the bench. Participating judges included: 

  • Honorable Christy O. Edwards, Alabama Court of Civil Appeals
  • Honorable Chief Judge Emily C. Marks, United States District Judge for the Middle District of Alabama
  • Honorable Javan J. Patton, Circuit Judge, Tenth Judicial Circuit
  • Honorable Brooke E. Reid, Circuit Judge, Fifteenth Judicial Circuit
