FERC Issues Order Approving Final Settlement Agreement Related to 2011 Southwest Blackout

On May 26, 2015, in Docket No. IN14-11, FERC issued an order approving a settlement agreement between FERC’s Office of Enforcement, NERC, the Western Electric Coordinating Council (WECC), and Peak Reliability related to alleged violations of reliability standards by WECC during the September 2011 Southwest blackout. The settlement requires WECC to pay a $16 million civil penalty. This is the sixth and final settlement agreement related to the 2011 Southwest blackout and marks the conclusion of the FERC Office of Enforcement’s investigation into the matter.
