FERC Issues NOPR to Approve Revisions to Seven CIP Standards

On July 16, 2015, in Docket No. RM15-14, FERC issued a Notice of Proposed Rulemaking ("NOPR") to approve new versions of seven Critical Infrastructure Protection ("CIP") reliability standards: CIP-003-6, CIP-004-6, CIP-006-6, CIP-007-6, CIP-009-6, CIP-010-2, and CIP-011-2. NERC submitted a petition seeking approval of the proposed standards on February 13, 2015. In addition to approving the versions listed above, the NOPR also proposes to direct NERC to modify Reliability Standard CIP-006-6 to require protection of communication networks between all bulk electric system control centers, and to direct NERC to develop requirements related to supply chain management for industrial control system hardware, software, and services.
