NERC Submits Comments to LANL Paper Regarding GMD Benchmark Event

On October 22, 2015, in Docket No. RM15-11, NERC submitted comments in response to the September 2015 technical paper prepared by Los Alamos National Laboratory (LANL) regarding the Geomagnetic Disturbance (GMD) benchmark event in the proposed Reliability Standard TP-007-1. In its comments, NERC maintains that the proposed benchmark GMD event provides a scientifically sound, technically justified approach for identifying GMD impacts with the potential to cause instability, uncontrolled separation, or cascading failures of the Bulk-Power System.
