FERC Approves Revisions to TOP and IRO Reliability Standards

On November 19, 2015, in Docket No. RM15-16, FERC issued Order No. 817, approving revisions to the Transmission Operations (TOP) and Interconnection Reliability Operations and Coordination (IRO) Reliability Standards. The revisions to both provide improvements to the currently-effective standards and the revisions to the TOP Reliability Standards improve efficiency by incorporating the requirements from the eight currently-effective TOP Reliability Standards into three comprehensive Reliability Standards. The Order also requires NERC to make certain modifications to the Reliability Standards regarding data exchange capabilities and real-time monitoring of non-BES facilities. NERC submitted a petition for approval of the TOP and IRO Reliability Standards on March 18, 2015.
