NERC Submits Comments on NOPR Regarding Reactive Power Exemptions

On January 27, 2016, in Docket No. RM16-1, NERC submitted comments on FERC’s Notice of Proposed Rulemaking (NOPR) proposing to revise the Standard Generator Interconnection Agreements to eliminate exemptions for wind generators from the requirement to provide reactive power by revising the pro forma Large Generator Interconnection Agreement (LGIA), Appendix G to the pro forma LGIA, and the pro forma Small Generator Interconnection Agreement.  The NOPR was published in the Federal Register on November 25, 2016 and would require all newly interconnecting generators, including synchronous and non-synchronous generators, to provide reactive power.  NERC’s comments support the changes suggested in the NOPR.
