FERC Grants Extension for Implementation of CIP Version 5 Reliability Standards

On February 25, 2016, in Docket No. RM15-14, FERC issued an order granting an extension of time for implementation of the critical infrastructure protection (CIP) version 5 Reliability Standards from April 1, 2016 to July 1, 2016.  On February 4, 2016, Edison Electric Institute, along with several other trade associations, submitted a motion requesting an extension of time for implementation for entities with High and Medium Impact Bulk Electric System Cyber Systems in order to align the implementation date of the CIP Version 5 Reliability Standards (April 1, 2016) with the effective date of the revised CIP Reliability Standards approved in Order No. 822 (July 1, 2016).  In granting the extension, FERC concluded that the separate implementation dates in short succession would create unnecessary administrative burdens with little or no commensurate benefit to reliability.
