NERC Requests Retirement of WECC Reliability Standard TOP-007-WECC-1a

On March 23, 2016, NERC and the Western Electricity Coordinating Council (“WECC”) submitted a joint petition requesting that NERC retire WECC regional Reliability Standard TOP-007-WECC-1a, System Operating Limits.  The purpose of TOP-007-WECC-1a is to ensure that the actual flows and associated scheduled flows on major WECC transfer paths do not exceed System Operating Limits for more than 30 minutes.  Because these issues are adequately addressed by continent-wide Reliability Standards, TOP-007-WECC-1a is redundant and unnecessary.  The decision to retire the regional Reliability Standard was approved by the WECC Board of Directors on December 2, 2015 and by the NERC Board of Trustees on February 11, 2016.
