On March 10, 2017, in Docket No. RD17-5-000, NERC and the Western Electricity Coordinating Council (“WECC”) submitted a joint petition for approval of Regional Reliability Standard VAR-501-WECC-3, Power System Stabilizers. Regional Reliability Standard VAR-501- WECC-3 establishes the performance criteria for power system stabilizers to help ensure the Western Interconnection is operated in a coordinated manner under normal and abnormal conditions. NERC also requests approval of the associated implementation plan for the proposed standard, the associated Violation Risk Factors (“VRFs”) and Violation Severity Levels (“VSLs”), and the retirement of Regional Reliability Standard VAR-501-WECC-2. The NERC Board of Trustees adopted the proposed Regional Reliability Standard on February 9, 2017.
