NERC Submits Proposed Reliability Standard VAR-005-1
- Filter By Electric Reliability Law Blog
On September 6, 2018, in Docket No. RD18-8-000, NERC submitted a petition for approval of proposed Reliability Standard VAR-001-5 (Voltage and Reactive Control). NERC is only proposing revisions to the regional Western Electricity Coordinating Council (WECC) Variance to the standard. The purpose of VAR-001-5 is to ensure that voltage levels, reactive flows, and reactive resources are monitored, controlled, and maintained within limits in Real-time to protect equipment and the reliable operation of the Interconnection. In 2017, WECC determined that revisions to the Variance associated with Reliability Standard VAR-001-5 were necessary. Specifically, WECC revised the Variance to eliminate Requirement E.A.15 because the reliability-related task is addressed in a continent-wide Reliability Standard. NERC has submitted this petition to incorporate these changes.
