FERC Requests Informational Filing Regarding NERC Standard Drafting Projects

On February 20, 2020, in Docket No. RD20-2-000, FERC issued an order directing NERC to submit informational filings regarding the status of two NERC critical infrastructure protection standard drafting projects: Project 2016-02 (Modifications to CIP Standards) and Project 2019-02 (BES Cyber System Information Access Management). Project 2016-02 addresses a directive in Order No. 822 regarding the protection of transient electronic devices used at low impact BES Cyber Systems. Project 2019-02 was initiated in response to an industry standard authorization request identifying a need to enhance BES reliability. Specifically, FERC is ordering NERC to submit schedules for the projects including the current status, interim target dates, and anticipating filing dates for new or modified Reliability Standards. NERC has been directed to submit the informational filing within 30 days of the date of issuance of the order and will also be required to file quarterly status updates on an informational basis until the Reliability Standards are filed with the Commission.
