NERC and WECC Submit Joint Petition for Approval of PRC-006-5

On October 27, 2020, in Docket No. RD21-1-000, NERC and Western Electricity Coordinating Council (WECC) submitted a petition to FERC for the approval of proposed Reliability Standard PRC-006-5. Proposed Reliability Standard PRC-006-5 (Automatic Underfrequency Load Shedding) revises the WECC regional variance that clarify applicability of continent-wide requirements to entities in the Western Interconnection and clarify the applicability of the WECC regional variance to Planning Coordinators. In particular, the proposed standard establishes design and documentation requirements for automatic underfrequency load shedding (UFLS) programs to arrest declining frequency, assist recovery of frequency following underfrequency events, and provide last resort system measures.
